Bellingham Yoga Shala is a community safe space that is well suited specifically for yoga classes as well as events, gatherings, workshops, meetings, and performaing arts classes.

We do not discriminate in any way in regards to what classes you hold, what style they are, or how the public may view what you have to offer your community. The tradition of our space is to practice complete openness towards our community and the needs of members of our public to seek a safe space for their practice or public offering. Whatever your use of the space; as long as you abide by the law, and respect the space and those who share it with you, you are welcome here.

Studio comes with:

  • Over 800 Square Feet of open space.

  • Prop Room with an assortment of basic props (blankets, bolsters, straps, mats, blocks, chairs, etc.).

  • Industrial strength HEATER!

  • 2nd floor space in downtown Bellingham so you get the location without too much street noise.

  • Beautiful artwork on the walls, as well as Nataraja mural for added effect!

  • Clean space with weekly cleaning schedule provided by ownership.

  • 2 available bathrooms.

  • Foyer room so you can check in guests/students prior to entering the space.

  • Storage room for staff and teachers belongings.

  • Nice and LOUD Bluetooth Speaker that also has a headphone type jack as well to plug into a laptop, phone, etc.

  • Beautiful skylight that provides ample natural light during the day.

  • Big windows that can open to let in fresh air from Cornwall Avenue.

  • WiFi Internet that is usually fast enough to hold online classes, etc.

  • Simple and effective solution to your class in a proven event space with good energy and a lasting tradition of community gatherings. Our space is one of the oldest (and most adorable) in Bellingham!

Things to be aware of:

  • Not handicap accessible (must walk up one full flight of stairs to access space)

  • Downtown is lovely and we are only a couple blocks from the downtown shelter. You are welcome to lock the door while your class is in session.

  • We only offer street parking, which is not usually an issue since there is a lot of parking in the area, especially during typically non-business hours of 9am-5pm on weekdays.

  • As you are an independent provider, you must provide your own payment processing, booking and appointment systems, and so forth.

  • There is Indian “Hindu” artwork on the walls.

  • Our floor is pretty old (but we love it for its character).

  • The heater works really well, but it takes 15 minutes or so to heat the space up in the colder months; in this case we advise arriving early (you do not have to pay for this time).

  • The bathrooms are shared by our friends at Presence Studio.

  • We are just down the street from Pure Bliss Desserts; this can create problems if you’re trying to reduce your sugar intake.

  • We are not particular about how you use the space, but we are particular about you leaving it how you found it.

  • Our space is not a registered non-profit, but it has a “co-op” type cost structure in that no profits are taken from it. We all take care of the space to save costs on cleaning, repairs, etc.

Etiquette & Policies

  1. Rent is due on the first of the month.

  2. You only pay for the time that your event is using the space. For example; if your class is from 6-7pm, you pay for 1 hour.

  3. You may arrive before your class to set up, if it is cleared, without additional payment. There is no rule on how long before your class you may arrive, but if you arrive more than 15 minutes before your class it is customary to let us know via email or text that you will be in there.

  4. Be courteous to other instructors and clear the space after your class, and be sure the space is cleared before you enter. By default, the right of way goes to the previous renter; check with the previous renter to ensure that the space is cleared (and perhaps cleaned) BEFORE you enter to bring in a new class.

  5. By design there is a minimum 15 minute gap between classes to allow one renter to clear and another to enter. When you look at the schedule, plan on the renter before you having 5-10 minutes, and you having 5-10 minutes, of this time.

  6. A broom closet is located near the entrance to the main shala; use the dry mop after each class. Use the wet mop (A spray mop) as needed. Use other cleaning products as needed. Help yourself to toiletry items.

  7. If you witness an act of violence, or you or any of your staff or students believe you are in danger, alert the staff of the Bellingham Bar and Grill.

  8. We are downtown, next to a pole dancing studio, and above a bar. It’s loud and smells like hamburgers. Deal with it.

  9. No shoes in the main studio.

  10. Scent free environment; spray it, burn it, smudge it, somewhere else.

  11. All renters are required to carry their own insurance. A letter of indemnity will be required.

  12. Leave the thermostat on at 60 degrees when you leave.

  13. All other information (wifi, door codes, etc.) will be provided via your renters agreement.
